An etching press can be a powerful tool in printmaking, and another application we have seen in the art community is to use the same machine for rolling slabs of clay.

As standard, The EZ Etching press can allow up to 15mm thickness through the rollers, and if you are willing to modify the machine this can be extended to all 22mm by removing the height adjust locking nuts, (which we understand are not essential for clay slab rolling) with a quick dismantle to remove these, you are all set to go for thicker clay rolling.

We have learned that some users of the machine have been able to use the EZ etching press as a great entry level Clay Slab Rolling Machine and then after wedging (kneading) the clay, you can place on canvas or Teflon and  use a board to send through the EZ etch press rollers for a clean and even distribution of your material. We even supply a free A3 MDF board with the machine.

With the upgraded handwheel, using an etching press as a manual slab rolling machine and turning the hand wheel is easier to achieve a smooth and clean rolling movement to press the clay evenly.
